TECHNOLOGY- week 2

Last Wednesday we had our first session of technology. We were given a warm welcome to Kaitaia College by the principal, Whaea Louise. The year 8 students will be taking part in metal work while the year 7's are in design. We are really looking forward to seeing the final outcomes of your time at technology. 

Tech will be every Wednesday at 10 am, students need to wear covered in shoes and have long hair tied back. 

FONTERRA VISIT

FONTERRA MILK TANKER VISIT 

We were very lucky to get a visit from two men who work for fonterra, they told us all about how the milk is gathered and taken to the factory to be processed and how it ends up on our shelves. It was a very interesting korero, we then got to have a look inside the truck and ask a few questions. We were very blessed and got left with a flavoured milk to share together. This was a great experience which taught us about production and allowed us to think about different career pathways in farming, engineering and management. 

 

SWIMMING

We have been working really hard on our swimming skills and technique. Swimming sports will be in week 5 so don't forget to bring your togs and swimming gear every Tues, Weds and Thursday. 

MAHI TAHI- Collaborative Art

COLLABORATIVE ART

In week 2 we did Mahi Tahi as a senior syndicate. We focused on the 4 C's; collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and communication. In this task students were split into groups across each of the year levels and were given a piece of art which they then had to enlarge by using collage. Students had to draw on their math knowledge, using their enlargement skills. This gave the seniors a great opportunity to be tuakana to the younger students. 
We all had lots of fun and created a great piece of art that was close enough to the original. 

 

Te Hiku Manaiakalani Outreach 2 First Movie Festival

This year has been our first Te Hiku Movie Festival, the movies have been played on the big screen at the Te Ahu Cinema in Kaitaia on Thursday 7 November. This is one of the lucky movies to be chosen from our school. Congratulations to everyone involved in the production of this movie. Arts and Cultural Evening

What a great celebration we had at our Art and Cultural evening at the end of last term.. 🎉  We enjoyed food dishes from our many cultures in our school  - so many it was hard to pick which ones to eat - they were all delicious!

Our students did an amazing job entertaining whanau and friends with songs and skits.  Thanks to everyone who contributed to our very successful evening, and also those who came and celebrated with us, we hope you enjoyed your evening as much as we did 🙏🏽🥰

 

Making Macrame Wall Hangings

We were lucky enough to have Chloe's nana come and teach us how to make Macrame Wall Hangings today as part of our art showcase for our Cultural Evening.
These were so fun to do - once you got the idea of how to do the knots.  It took a lot of concentration and perseverance to create our master pieces, and the students were very proud of their final pieces!  Some got very creative!
