The Story of Pentecost

 In our religious education program we have been learning about Pentecost. Pentecost is a special celebration in the Catholic Church where we remember the arrival of the Holy Spirit. In Te Kahu we read the story from Acts Chapter 2 in the bible then learned how to create a stop motion using puppets to retell the story.

This is our first try at making a stop motion video so there are a few things we still need to work on like keeping our cameras still and working on adding more images.

How to Create a Stop Motion

  1. Create/ gather  props

  2. Create setting/ background

  3. Take photos and move the props a small amount each time.

  4. Upload into iMovie and remove the ‘ken burns’ setting for each image and make the images .5 seconds long.

  5. Add voice over to the complete stop motion retelling the story.

Religious Education Mahi- Week Four

 Check out the following slides to find out what tasks you need to be completing. Aim to finish one task each day.

Mc Auley Day 2021

 This Friday we will be celebrating McAuley Day. We cannot wait to be back at school after being in lockdown for what will be the past 9 days dressed in blue.
Catherine McAuley is a phenomenal woman who founded the Sisters of Mercy. As a mercy school the way she lived her life inspires us daily to care for others and help those in need. Keep an eye on our blog to see what we got up to!

First Mass of 2021!

Today we celebrated our first Mass together as a school for 2021. It was awesome to be back in church and to hear the lovely singing from all of our amazing students and to hear the gospel shared from Father Larry about being welcoming to one another.

A highlight for me was seeing our fantastic Te Kahu seniors leading our Mass whether it was as altar servers (or Knights of the Altar), singers, powerpoint managers, readers, leading prayers of the faithful or just setting a great example on how to reverent during church from their seats.

Well done Te Kahu!

WELCOME TO 2021

 We are so excited to be back at school and to start our learning for 2021!

Te Kahu is a fantastic class of Year 7 & 8 learners. Over the first two days of school we have had a whakatau to welcome all of our new students and whanau, we have created our class Treaty and have been learning a lot about Catherine McAuley and the Acts of Mercy.

This morning we participated in a prayer rotation based on our Mercy Charism; for this we rotated around 10 different prayer stations where we got to pray for ourselves and pray for others.

Scriptures that relate to Lent

For RE we have begun our LENT unit, today we looked at different scriptures that relate to the pillars of lent and discussed the lessons we have learned from each reading and what the challenges we may face could be.

How do these readings explore the possible challenges that people face and overcome in today's world? What lessons could be learnt from these readings?

MATTHEW 18:23-35--> FORGIVENESS

LESSON: Forgiving others as God forgave you. Everyone deserves a second chance.
CHALLENGE: Forgiving others when they break your trust.

ACTS 7:54-8:3 --> BELIEVING/ FAITH

LESSON: Keep your faith. Think about WWJD? Always believe.
CHALLENGE: Still believing even when other people don't.

LUKE 16:19-31--> GIVING

LESSON: To always help and care for the poor.
CHALLENGE: To give to others that don't have much. Give something up of your own.

First Mass- 2020

BEGINNING OF YEAR MASS

On Friday the 14th of February we had our beginning of the year mass held in the church. It was also our first mass with Father Larry. He shared a message about love for each other and love for and from God. Well done to all those students who stepped up and took on responsibility to serve in the church.

Labyrinth Prayer with Te Kahu

Students commented how it was really nice for a change - calming music played, everyone participated in the Labyrinth, their own images of God prayers were included for all to read... a soothing experience. We then went back to class and continued by reflecting on that experience, followed by quiet time thinking about what we are grateful for whilst colouring the Holy Trinity 🤗
Prayer this morning 🙏 was held in Piwakawaka with the Labyrinth inspired prayer Mrs Watson and I did with the teachers for our Monday morning reflection prayer. 🌀 It was lead by our prayer leaders Watene, Nevaeh and Cohen with a little bit of facilitating by myself.
